Fallawater was reported growing on Orcas in 1891 and we have found living trees of this variety at the Coffelt Farm and an ancient orchard on Lopez Island (and scions are available through our annual scion exchange and grafting workshops on Lopez, Orcas, and San Juan). Fallwater originated in Pennsylvania prior to 1842. It is a very large, long conical green apple with a reddish pink blush. It is used as a cooking or drying apple, and is not generally enjoyed fresh. It keeps well, and its cooking qualities improve in storage.
You can view watercolors of Fallawater in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
