English Russet is recorded as growing on Orcas by 1891. We have not yet found living trees of this variety growing in the islands. Despite its name this russet apple variety is thought to have likely originated in the United States, where it was first recorded in 1842. It is a medium, round, russet apple, late ripening and with typical rich russet flavor.Â
You can view a watercolor of English Russet in the USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection.
