S.R.S. Gray listed this variety as "being tried" in his 1891 Seattle Post Intelligencer article about fruit varieties on Orcas Island. It may not have been successful, and we have not yet located any living Autumn Strawberry apple trees in the islands. This variety is also known as Late Strawberry and Fall Strawberry. It originated in Cayuga County, New York prior to 1848. It bears medium, round or oblong conic fruit with long stems. The fruit are striped (dark red over a yellow background), early ripening, and reported to have a good aromatic flavor.Â
